Watch Party Update

I finished off a few good shows recently so it is time for a watch party update.

I watched the early seasons of Better Call Saul and then stopped and waited for them to wrap the show and went back to the beginning and watched it again. It was enjoyable, some people said it was as good or better than Breaking Bad but I do not agree with that analysis. It was a good show, but I will not watch it again, whereas I can (and have) watched Breaking Bad several times.

I have disliked and liked some of the new Star Wars shows on Disney. Andor was good, where others have failed pretty miserably (See Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Boba Fett). Andor is the gritty, underbelly of the rebellion, a show created for the generation that watched the original trilogy in the theatre. An homage to the SW universe without focusing on or re-imagining any of the original characters. This is the way, I think, for Disney to create SW shows that are enjoyable for me.

The always loveable Alan Tudyk stars in Resident Alien and I caught up on this show. Clever and quirky, it is always an enjoyable watch.

Wednesday dropped just a week or so ago. On a whim I thought I would give it a shot, not expecting too much. I love this mini-series and I have no right to. It was the most fun show I have seen in a very long time. It was one of those shows that will test your willpower to not binge the entire series in one night. I knew I was in trouble after watching the first episode but forced myself to slow down and only watch two episodes per night. It was perfectly cast and directed, well written, and had some fun twists in the plot line. I will likely go back and watch it again.

Some others that are in my watch queues:

  • I guess Superstore was on TV at some point but I never saw an episode. I discovered it and it is a great palate cleanser, funny and easily digestible episodes.

  • Mythic Quest is great, I got to the end of Season 1 last night and the covid/quarantine episode was very clever and well imagined given the circumstances.

  • Avenue 5 is another show I will watch here and there, almost done with the first season. Not at the top of my list but a nice filler of light comedy.

And finally some misses: The Rings of Power, I tried and just could not do it; The Peripheral, maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention, I tend to do that when watching shows, but I was lost and uninterested somewhere in the first couple of episodes.

In the Queue: Yellowstone, True Detective, Foundation

And finally a shout out to The Simpsons, and King of the Hill. These are my once a day lunch fodder to help me break up the day. There are just so many seasons of The Simpsons, I am currently in the mid to high teens in seasons and the episodes are hit and miss. King of the Hill is almost always a funny 22 minute lunch break.
