February 21, 1995 Spartanburg S.C. Wofford College

Things have been going fairly well for the most part. I realize it has been a bit since I recorded something like a journal entry so here I go. Yes, i am in S.C. and the weather is Okay although not quite warm enough to go golfing yet.

Wofford college is okay. I like my students and I am almost done. This is my final week here, I am going to Dayton on Friday, I made conferences optional so that I could drive up there on Friday. Then it is up to Illinois for my final two weeks with this organization. Hopefully Bloomington will be more of a fun town than Spartanburg. It is pretty boring and run down here. I especially don’t really care for my hotel room, it is not as nice as the Econlodge that I stayed in at Mary Baldwin, but I have my computer so that is good.

Rhea came down last weekend, braving the eight hour drive to come see me because she didn’t have any school yesterday. We had a good time although we really didn’t do very much, went to a mall in Greenvile and out to eat a bunch of times, but I am glad that she came down.

I sent out a bunch of resumes the last time I was home but most of them have come to naught so far. I’ll get into some real job seeking when I get back home after Illi. Wesleyen. Hopefully I will be able to find a job and Chris is probably going to end up back in Cleveland, I think he is pretty sick of school, so if we can get together and find a place, also maybe with Vicki, then I’ll be able to find a nice apartment. Although if nothing like that happens I’ll move into Kevin’s place for a while if he doesn’t are too much about it. I still feel like my soul is unsettled with all this moving around. If nothing else hopefully this experience will look good enough on a resume to get me a real job somewhere in publishing or editing or something. I’m also going to send my resume to Ignatius, along with Chris, and that would just be hilarious if we both ended up working there. Things seem to be coming to their fruition again, but it seems like that is happening to me on a less that yearly basis. Maybe it is a good thing but then again maybe it is time to settle.

Rhea and I have talked about what we will do if I get a job in Cleveland and the best suggestion so far is that she will move up there and get a place that I will help pay for, either by living at home 🙁 or by making some decent money 🙂 .

My due date for finding a job is my birthday, the real test is to be making my age by then but I don’t think that is a realistic goal at all, so I’ll stick with just finding a job as my goal.

I guess that is it for now. Hopefully I will be gainfully employed the next time I write.

i can’t really recall much about wofford, i barely remember the hotel room, i think this was the one were they charged me for four weeks but i only stayed there for three. it was a run down kind of place.

there was one college where i stayed in a “guest suite” which happened to be housed with the girls dorms. i heard some pretty saucy tales from the freshman girls in the next room. some of my favorites where “have you ever been doing it so long that you just have to stop?” and “did you ever really have to fart during it?” which would be followed by minutes of giggling before the answers would come out.

i remember illinois wesleyen much more. the room i taught in was part of a frat house. i stayed in a guest house and there was no beer allowed, and, of course i got busted because i locked myself out of the room and had to call public safety to let me back in. the officer did, but there was my beer sitting right next to my keyboard on the floor (i’m pretty sure i was playing warlords at the time). he took my beer and then checked the fridge to see if there were any more but i was ready for his tactics and had already hidden them. when i was finished i packed up my car and was ready to go and discovered i had a flat. so i changed it and drove all the way back to cleveland on a spare, listening to the cavs on wtam “the big one” the whole way.
